Amadeus

Amadues title of a play written in 1979 by Peter Schaffer on the life of composers Mozart and Salieri. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, perhaps arguably the best musician cum composer of all times, and Antonio Salieri the court composer in Vienna at contemporary times, with Salieri trying his best to keep Mozart's talent at bay while the former easily outshining the later. Though the music historians differ on this point the play charms the viewers with Mozart's excellence and Saliery's deceit.

The plot starts with Saliery, a man of high repute who himself thinks music is his only refuge, is thrilled about Mazart's Music but has never met him. But when he meets him, he is dissapointed that Mozart's personality is not what he had expected. later on Mozart Says "I am a vulgar man....but I assure you, my music is not." He cannot think that God has chosen Mozart for all the ingeniousness he has. The starts the play with Saliery, himself being an ardent fan of Mozart's music, tries to suppress his reputation. Saliery never misses any Mozart's show but through his influence never allows to run the show for longer periods.

The play ends with Saliery trying a suicide, in an attempt to be remembered, with a confession of trying to murder Mozart, and finally accepting himself as a "champion of mediocrity".
Amadeus has been mad into Movie by Miloš Forman in 1984. It is a must watch movie and definitely among the top movies of the century.
